ETUC Secretary General John Monks visits Lithuania

The purpose of the visit - to discuss the Lithuanian trade union activities in the economic crisis period, to know better the development of social dialogue, it best practices and problems in Lithuania. Three Lithuanian trade union organizations - Lithuanian Labour Federation, Lithuanian Trade Union Confederation and the Lithuanian trade union "Solidarumas" are the members of ETUC. The European Trade Unions Confederation unites 82 trade unions from 36 European countries and represents 60 million members.

Coordination centre of national trade union centres prepared very tight visit programme for John Monks.

11 June 16:00 – John Monks will meet with the Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.

11 June 18:00. John Monks will meet with Lithuanian trade union leaders and Board members.

11 June 20:00. There is business dinner foreseen with John Monks. Very high level politicians -  Prime Minister, Speaker of Seimas, Minister of Social Security and Labour and other important representatives of social dialogue institutions are invited to take part in the dinner.

All these meetings show that European trade union confederation is very concerned with the economic situation in Baltic countries.
